SAFETY PROTOCOLS

For in-person lessons

All GIGS students have the option to take lessons virtually (from home) or in-person (at our studio). We have made the conscious business decision to maintain 100% of our commercial space at GIGS. In order to create the safest environment possible for our students and staff to return to learning and teaching in person, we have temporarily limited usage to just half the space.

As of September 2020, we will be implementing the following safety protocols for in-person lessons at GIGS. As the current public health situation evolves, we will make updates to these protocols on an as needed basis.

Temperature Check

We will require routine temperature checks upon arrival at GIGS. Once a healthy temperature is recorded, students and staff may proceed to their lesson/shift as planned. For the safety of the community, any person who registers a higher than average temperature will not be permitted to attend his or her lesson/shift that day. Management will resolve any rescheduled lessons with each student/family individually.

Half-Capacity Operation

No more than four teachers will be working in-person at GIGS on any given day of the week. They will be spread out throughout the entire GIGS facility to maintain social distance based on the graphs below. All staff members will work out of the same room for the duration of their shift. Lessons will take place in the Workshop (ground floor), Red room (main lobby second floor), Yellow room (main lobby second floor), and Live/Studio rooms (third floor). Entrance and exit protocols as well as staggered lesson times have been put in place to ensure that students have no contact with any other person before, during, and after their lesson.

Elimination of Lobby/Common Areas

For the time being, we will no longer allow parents, family members, friends, students, or teachers to congregate in the main lobby (or any other common area) at GIGS. Students will be required to wait outdoors or in their cars until his or her lesson time. We ask that students refrain from using the bathrooms at GIGS unless it is an emergency.

Staggered Lesson Start Times

In place of our previous model (in which all in-person lessons would start and stop at the same time), we will be adapting a new staggered lesson schedule. Individual lessons will begin in increments of ten minutes. This will eliminate any foot traffic/student contact as lessons begin and end.

Entrance/Exit Procedures

Students taking lessons on the second and third floors of GIGS (Red, Yellow, and Live/Studio rooms) will enter the building through the main entrance at 10-minute intervals (see above) and proceed directly to their lesson room. After the lesson is completed, students will exit the building directly from their lesson room into the back parking lot.

Students taking lessons on the ground floor of GIGS (the Workshop) will enter through the front Workshop entrance, and exit out the back stage door directly into the parking lot.

Protective Gear and Distancing Methods

We will require all teachers and students to wear a face mask or shield for the duration of all in-person lessons. In the coming weeks, we will send out information on special GIGS-branded face masks available for purchase. Students are also welcome to wear one from home.

We will require a distance of at least 6ft between students & teachers at all times. This distance will be enforced by markings on the floor of each teaching room. Rooms will be structured and equipped so that staff may easily accomplish and maintain this distance while teaching. We will have all necessary instruments and resources in each room.

Sanitizer

Students and teachers will be required to use hand sanitizer upon the start of each lesson.

Separate Instruments

Students and teachers will be required to use hand sanitizer upon the start of each lesson.

Guitar and Ukulele lessons
Students may no longer use/borrow GIGS-owned instruments during their lessons. He or she will be required to bring their own instrument from home in order to have a lesson.

Piano lessons
We will have two separate pianos in each room, situated so that there is at least 6ft of space between teacher and student. Teachers will be required to wipe down the student-designated piano between every lesson.

Drum lessons
Drum lessons will take place on two separate sets, situated so that there is at least 6ft of space between teacher and student. Teachers will be required to wipe down the student-designated drum set between every lesson. Students will be required to bring their own sticks.
